X MARKS THE PEDWALK: Four Fit (The Singles Collection Part 2) (CD on Cleopatra Records, 13428 Maxella Ave, Suite 251, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 USA).

Hard industrial with a rapid rhythmic presence, in that same ruptured vein as Skinny Puppy, but with more sinuous electronics. Most industrial dance musicians place the E-perc way up front, but X Marks the Pedwalk balance the rhythmic computers and chittering electronics so that they often occlude the durable percussion.

This 64 minute CD collects four of the band's European EPs from the early 1990s ("Pacer", "Paranoid Illusions", "The Trap" and "Cenotaph"). Highly recommended, X Marks the Pedwalk's compositional sense is very tight with a high quotient of catchy tunes.

X MARKS THE PEDWALK: Meshwork (CD on Cleopatra Records, 13428 Maxella Ave, Suite 251, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 USA).

Usually this band has a sound in the Skinny Puppy vein: savagely aggressive industrial dance attacks, heavy on the electro effects and rapid E-percs. This time that sound is tempered with a determined restraint, rechannelling the energetic tunes into a more esoteric realm. Parts of this album even carry a distinct Kraftwerk influence never before present in X Marks the Pedwalk's sound.

Out with the anger and in with the serious artist? The use of a female vocalist for some songs seems to emphasize this. There are more instrumental songs than usual, making this 56 minute release an interesting blend of agro and fastlane new age.

XYLON: Mooncafe (CD on Hypnotic Records, 13428 Maxella Ave, Suite 251, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 USA).

Electronic trance music with a fair degree of tempo. Hordes of keyboards and soft E-perc swim in the mooncafe's alien atmosphere. Space and time meld with the ambient rhythmatics as enticing melodies nibble at your peripheral hearing like sonic minnows. The title track is particularly intriguing with its brisk tectonic pulses and aquatic percussives. By the end of the 66 minute CD, the music has transformed into a funkier form of trance with strong rhythms and quicker tempo. Very tasty.
